Once on my first walk through the Koenigsheide I discovered the arch of this bridge between tree tops and could not image its purpose. I would not have been surprised, if I found a roller coaster or cement works after a while.
The Suedostallee Bridge was built from 1994 to 1999. It took 10 years after the Berlin Wall Drop to cross the Britzer Zweigkanal (side canal) here. Not far away, the Sonnenallee (another street) was cut by the wall. Now again it is possible to reach Neukoelln by the Suedostallee and the Sonnenallee directly.
This worth viewing bridge had a predecessor which was put up about 1907. It was damaged in the last war. In the GDR there was no need for a bridge because of the near border.
